Edgar Ramírez será ´Carlos´, el terrorista internacional más buscado

El internacional actor venezolano Edgar Ramírez será su compatriota “Carlos”, el terrorista internacional más buscado durante años por los servicios secretos de medio mundo. Se trata de una ambiciosa producción francesa que dará lugar a una película y también a una mini-serie de tres capítulos, dirigida por Olivier Assayas (“Demonlover”).

Una vez más la historia de “Carlos” se llevará a las pantallas. Primero fue “Chacal” y ahora es una nueva producción francesa.

Según el director francés, la elección de Edgar Ramírez “era la más obvia elección para interpretar al más complejo y controvertido personaje que emergió de las luchas revolucionarias de nuestro tiempo”.

Ilich Ramírez Sanchez, conocido por sus alias de “Carlos” y “Chacal”, es un ciudadano venezolano nacido en San Cristóbal, que militó en la OLP y otras organizaciones izquierdistas de diferentes países, antes de ser traicionado y prácticamente entregado cuando se refugió en Sudán.

Alcanzó fama mundial al secuestrar en 1975 a los ministros de la OPEP que se reunían en Viena, una operación que costó la vida a tres personas. Ahora cumple prisión a perpetuidad en Francia.

Este personaje será sin duda clave para el actor venezolano, del que se habló también para hacer el papel de Pablo Escobar en uno de los proyectos sobre el famoso narcotraficante colombiano. Al igual que “Carlos”, Edgar Ramírez es políglota, guarda un notable parecido con él y posee una amplia y cosmopolita formación.

Sus últimas apariciones han pantalla han sido en la película de Steven Soderbergh sobre Ernesto “Che” Guevara y en la cinta de su compatriota Alberto Arvelo “Cyrano Fernández”. A los 31 años, este caraqueño se suma a los más diversos proyectos dentro y fuera de su país. El último es “Saluda al diablo de mi parte”, del colombiano Juan Felipe Orozco.

“Yo soy periodista, mi padre diplomático y mi madre abogada. Vengo de un ambiente muy intelectual y por ahí me interesan los personajes intensos. Siento que uno tiene que hacer los proyectos que le laten y no los que le convienen”, ha declarado Edgar, que también intervino en “Domino”, “El ultimátum de Bourne”, “Punto y Raya” y “Elipsis”.

El actor domina cinco idiomas y que se pasó la infancia viajando. Es la misma vida que lleva en la actualidad, con su casa en Caracas, pero en la que apenas reside con tanto compromiso en el extranjero.

“No veo razones logísticas para lo contrario. A mí me gusta mi país y es ahí donde vivo, una región que me alimenta y me define. Pero soy un actor internacional y la cantidad de viaje que he hecho desde que tenía cuatro años ha hecho de mí una persona más amplia y a la vez más conectada con mis orígenes”, resume.

La cinta que puede significar su definitiva consagración se llamará “Story of Carlos”. Ramírez abandonó sus estudios en comunicación y sus sueños de ser diplomático como su padre, “quizá incluso secretario general de la ONU, por qué no”, para seguir esas otras “razones orgánicas” que le pedían ser actor.

“Por eso no me preocupa lo que me llamen o cómo me vean”, admite tranquilo.

“No me defino por géneros ni por tipología de personajes. Escojo mis trabajos en base a unos personajes que veo tridimensionales, en función de su historia y porque me den la posibilidad de hacer algo que me conmueva como actor y como persona”, añade.

Esta mezcla de “rudeza y sensibilidad” es la que vio el realizador de “The Bourne Ultimatum”, Paul Greengrass, para contar con él.

The actor who mastered five languages and childhood spent traveling. It carries the same life that is currently with his home in Caracas, but in that lies just so committed abroad.
